Ferry crossing Ilhabela - São Sebastião

Access to Ilhabela is via the pedestrian and car ferry leaving from São Sebastião, SP. The average crossing time is 20 minutes.

FERRY HOURS: 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year:
? From 6:00 to 00:30: Departure every 30 minutes, round trip.
? From 1:00 to 5:30: Departure every 1 hour, round trip.

Access the website of Waterway Department and see crossing cameras, waiting times and fares. On Holidays, High Season and Weekends, avoid queues and schedule the pick-up service Appointment.
Tourist vehicles, such as vans, kombis and buses, in addition to the ferry, pay an entry authorization fee…

In normal traffic, there are three ferries. With intense movement, there are up to seven ferries, with continuous boarding and disembarking. 
Ferry Capacity: 40 to 100 vehicles.
Payment for the ferry is only made to enter Ilhabela.

Entry of tourist vehicles in Ilhabela
Ilhabela City Hall requires the payment of a fee to issue an Entry Authorization for tourist vehicles in the municipality, such as buses, vans, minibuses, kombis, trailers and similar vehicles. To be exempt from this fee, which varies between R$ 596.60 to R$ 1,559.88 (values in December 2021), it is necessary to request a password. See what is needed, Click here.

How to get to Ilhabela by car

? From the capital of São Paulo, the most recommended route is via Rod. Ayrton Senna which later becomes Rod. Carvalho Pinto (approx. 100 km stretch)

? From the interior of São Paulo or the south of Minas via Rod. Dom Pedro I  to Rod. Carvalho Pinto;

? From the interior of São Paulo or the south of Minas via Rod. Dom Pedro I to Rod. Carvalho Pinto;

At Rod. Gov. Carvalho Pinto (SP-070), from any direction, near the city of São José dos Campos there will be an exit to Rod. dos Tamoios.
Rod. dos Tamoios (SP-099) Head towards Caraguatatuba (approx. 75 km), go down the mountain, which is mostly duplicated and in good condition. In Caraguatatuba take the Rod. Rio-Santos (BR-101) towards São Sebastião (approx. 25 km), where the Ilhabela ferry leaves. It arrived!

You can choose to come from Santos, Bertioga, Ubatuba or Rio de Janeiro, traveling along the Rod. Rio-Santos (BR-101) overlooking the wonderful coast. It's a great alternative for how to get to Ilhabela for those who like to enjoy landscapes, but aren't in a rush to get there. We recommend it only during the day!

How to get to Ilhabela by bus

To come by bus to Ilhabela you need to disembark in São Sebastião. Commercial buses do not enter the island, but stop next to the ferry so you can cross on foot (free of charge). When crossing there will be a circular bus stop and taxis.

From Sao Paulo: Viação Litorânea, tickets on the website www.litoranea.com.br.

? Origin: Tietê Bus Station? SAO PAULO TRT (SP); or the Airport? GUARULHOS AIRPORT (SP)
? Destination: SAO SEBASTIAO (SP) ? This bus stops at the Ilhabela ferry. Pay attention to the travel time at each time.

IMPORTANT: Do not choose Ilhabela-Balsa (SP) as your destination. Prefer routes via Tamoios (destination SAO SEBASTIAO), as the journey via Via Mogi das Cruzes takes much longer.

From Campinas and countryside: Go to São José dos Campos by any vehicle, for example www.passaromarron.com.br.

In São José dos Campos: Viação Litoranea, www.litoranea.com.br, bound for São Sebastião.

From Rio de Janeiro: Viação Útil, tickets on the website www.util.com.br bound for São Sebastião, SP.

How to get to Ilhabela by plane

? São José dos Campos Airport (SJK) at 100 km
? Galeão airport 400 km away or Ubatuba airport 50 km away.
